Description of the equipment structure diagram and results of the experimental investigations of low-, medium- and high-level clouds main forms are shown. The apparatus for recognizing clouds is quite simple and cheap. Key words: water content, liquid phase, geostationary.

| ABSTRACT: The opportunity to use the geostationary satellite radio signals at high elevation angles for determining parameters of hydrometeors (rain, snow, hail, clouds) is discussed. The attenuation and scattering of radio waves allow one to determine the average moisture and drop concentration in stratocumulus clouds, the reflection of radio waves from cumulonimbus clouds provides information on the intensity and hazard of cloudbursts etc. The functional diagram of equipment and results of experimental investigations on main forms of low-, middle- and high-level clouds are presented. The method of cloud recognizing using the geostationary satellite radiation, is promising. The equipment is environmentally safe, simple and cheap. INTRODUCTION At the present time, in view of environmental changes, one of the urgent problems is the detection of hydrometeors being hazard for man and causing hail, showery rains, snowfall etc. Furthermore, banks of undulated clouds present a flight safety hazard for aircrafts. These clouds are formed by atmospheric waves developing at the interface of two air layers having different densities and moving with different speeds. In wave ridges, where the ascending motion of air takes place, the cooling occurs provoking the water vapor condensation and cloud formation. In downward currents the air heats up and the sky between the ridges becomes free. The waves of this type cause bumpiness and sometimes lead to the aircraft catastrophe. Such hydrometeors are recognized with the help of active meteorological radar stations possessing a large energy potential and being environmentally unsafe [1,2]. Therefore, one of primary requirements to the design and application of the equipment is its environmental safety [3]. The present work was initiated to investigate the possibility to use the radio signals emitted from geostationary satellites for determination of hydrometeor parameters. The problem was set taking into consideration wide application of the space television, simplicity and availability of equipment, frequency ranges used and environmental safety. RESEARCH TECHNIQUE The research technique consists in finding the dependence between fluctuation characteristics of 3cm radio waves emitted from the geostationary satellite and the parameters of hydrometeors being on the path of radio wave propagation. On the path of centimetric radio-wave propagation [4] the troposphere has the most influence. Troposphere turbulences, leading to the dielectric permittivity inhomogeneity ε, influence on the level of a received signal and cause tailing of its spectrum. Clouds take a particular place [5]. The main forms of clouds are: - the low-level clouds: stratus (homogeneous, linear, ordered structure, comparatively thin layer); stratocumulus (layer with a distinct structure in the form of waves, banks or coarse plates); nimbostratus (continuous gray veil of a high vertical power giving long precipitations in the form of widespread rain or snow); - middle-level clouds: alto-stratus (grayish or slightly bluish veil); alto-cumulus (similar to stratocumulus but thinner); - high-level clouds: cirrus (low-density, often transparent, in the form of single parallel or entangled threads; cirrostratus (white or bluish, rather homogeneous veil); cirrocumulus (thin, semi-transparent or in the form of ripples or flake clusters); - vertically developed clouds having rather flat bottom and domical top often of a fantastical contours: cumulus, deep-cumulus and cumulonimbus. The temperature, moisture and water in liquid phase are varying at the cloud boundary in the atmosphere mass. Therefore there the sudden changes of the refraction index reaching to 1-3 N units/m take place. The sharpest (to 40 N units and more) jumps and drops of the refraction index at the cloud boundaries are observed during summer months because of the significant moisture influence at positive temperatures [6]. Such clouds are the most hazardous for a man: showery rains, hail, thunderstorms etc. The showery rains fall from the cumulonimbus clouds arising at the certain stage of the deep-cumulus cloud developing. The widespread rains fall, as a rule, from the nimbostratus clouds USE OF GEOSTATIONARY SATELLITE RADIO SIGNALS FOR DETERMINING … 89 and are characterized by a light intensity and extension of several hundred kilometers. The offered technique of an environmentally safe passive location, using the radio waves emitted from geostationary satellites, is based on the investigations of fluctuation characteristics of signals which have passed throughout the atmosphere. To exclude the surface reflections one applies highly located satellites ( β = 10°, 20° and 30°). Geometrical parameters of the propagation path are presented in Fig.1.

90E - 110E Surprisingly, but we have found out indignations of an ionosphere and troposphere from start-up рекеты in Northern Korea. Our aerials have been adjusted on broadcasting companions in area 90E - 110E
